How to Play Megamillions

A lottery ticket costs $1. You can buy tickets from us or from any lottery retailer who sells Megamillions lottery tickets.

Tickets can be purchased using the Quick Pick option or you can select your own numbers. Quick Option generate random numbers automatically and thus you can buy any number of tickets just by requesting the lottery retailer.

To choose your own numbers, you should fill up the bet slip. Each slip allows you to buy five tickets for up to 8 draws. "Cash" or "Annuity" can be selected at the time of the purchase. Annuity means that if you win the grand prize, the prize will be paid to you in 26 equal installments annually.

Megamillions Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11.00pm. Five white balls are pulled out from a pool of 56. One mega ball is drawn from a second pool of 46. Any one matching these six winning numbers wins the jackpot.

There are nine ways to win prizes from $2 to jackpot. Overall odds of winning a prize is 1 in 40. Megamillions jackpot is estimated to average $80 million. With the addition of California, it can surpass $500 million.

Claiming Prizes

If you win a prize, sign at the back of the Megamillions ticket immediately. Then take it to any Lottery Retailer. Small prizes are paid cash at the time of the claim. Bigger prizes require you to fill a claim form & submit it to lottery headquarters. It takes approximately three weeks to receive a check.

The law requires that the NJ Lottery withhold a minimum 25% of all prize payments to any Lottery winner who has won more than $5,000. Winners who do not possess a social security number are subject to a 30% federal income tax deduction on any prize over $599.50.

Megamillions Lottery Winners

A Michigan player has won the $206 million grand prize from the recent Megamillions lotto drawing.

Besides the grand prize winner, 26 players matched all five numbers but not the Gold Mega Ball number. They will receive second prizes of $250,000 each.

Another 137 players, matched four numbers plus the Gold Mega Ball number, will receive third prizes of $10,000 each.

The winning numbers from Friday night's drawing were: 23, 25, 43, 46 and 49. The Mega Ball number was 26.
