The Vermont Lottery has approximately 720 licensed lottery sales agents throughout the state. Of these, over 550 locations are licensed to sell Tri-State Megabucks, Heads or Tails, Powerball and Pick 3/Pick 4 tickets.
Starting September 27,1998, lottery agents received a 5.75% commission on all Tri-State Megabucks, Heads or Tails and Pick 3/Pick 4 sales and starting November 21, 1998 agents received 5.75% commission on instant scratch-off ticket sales. This is an increase from the 5% commission that agents received since the Lottery's inception. Agents receive a 6% commission on all Powerball sales. Agents also get a 1% bonus for selling a winning ticket of $500 or more (capped at $30,000). In FY03, agent commissions totaled 4.6 million dollars.
Consistent with our legislative mandate, we will design, regulate, promote, distribute, and sell lottery games of chance in Vermont. In doing this we must preserve the integrity of the games, maximize profitability, and make a significant contribution to the Education Fund while maintaining the dignity of the state.
