With the Illinois Lottery’s landmark 30th anniversary this year, Lottery
Superintendent Carolyn Adams called on Hill & Knowlton to increase
visibility of new games and activities, as well as promote the 11-state Mega
Millions game. As the Mega Millions jackpot climbed to a record $230 million
in February, H&K used the opportunity to both gain exposure for the Illinois
Lottery and create positive buzz surrounding the 30th anniversary campaign. By positioning Illinois as the "luckiest state" in the Mega Millions family, touting more than twice as many winners (with 26) as the next closest state, H&K was able to secure extensive local coverage with nearly 70 broadcast hits and 11 radio interviews statewide. In addition to Mega Millions exposure, when NBC’s "Today Show" broadcast live from Chicago, H&K ensured that life-sized Mega Millions Lottery Tickets, Megamillions, Megamillion, Mega Million, Powerball Lottery Tickets, Powerball Tickets and Powerball Online balls were visible to the crowd with birthday gear including party hats, balloons and 30th birthday signs. Hill & Knowlton’s creativity secured coverage of the Mega Millions Lottery Tickets, Megamillions, Megamillion, Mega Million, Powerball Lottery Tickets, Powerball Tickets and Powerball Online balls on the local NBC news channel and in several "Today Show" crowd shots.
