It's the second time in three months that a Maryland Lottery player has won the top prize in the multistate Mega Millions game. There was a $20 million winner in June, Morton said.
If the winner chooses the cash option, the Maryland Treasury will get an estimated $9 million in income tax.
A total of 89,643 tickets were sold in Maryland.
The winning numbers from Friday night's drawing were: 1, 2, 3, 12 and 37. The Mega Ball number was 35.
None of the tickets sold for Friday's $57 million drawing matched all five Mega Millions Lottery Tickets, Megamillions, Megamillion, Mega Million, Powerball Lottery Tickets, Powerball Tickets and Powerball Online numbers and the Mega Ball. The next drawing will be Tuesday.
