The hearing was the only public forum scheduled before Greer makes his recommendation July 24. Public comments can be submitted through letters and e-mail through July 14.
On a recommendation from Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, the 2003 Texas Legislature authorized the Texas Lottery Commission to negotiate an agreement to join a multi-state lottery. Strayhorn suggested Texas join a multi-state lottery to increase lottery sales, which in turn will raise the amount of revenue directed by state law to the state's public schools.
