This sounds great on the surface, until you do the math: total state profits on lottery games only provide $637 million, six percent of the state's education budget. Mega Millions will add, hopefully, $41 million to that, about a seven percent increase. A seven percent jump in a six percent item results, as Blundo put it, in an extra chicken nugget at lunch for each student. Big deal.

Plus, the Dispatch reports our legislature is planning to siphon $41 million in existing school funding to balance the budget. This financial shell game means zero increase in school funding and a huge lie to every Ohio taxpayer.
