The last winning Mega Millions ticket sold in Michigan was in 2003. The ticket, for a $23.3 million prize, was sold in Battle Creek, Quimby said.
The largest previous lottery jackpot won in the Holland area was $23 million, split by two men -- never publicly identified -- who shared a ticket in the Michigan Millions drawing on Dec. 22, 2001. That winning ticket was sold at the Admiral's station in Zeeland.
"A lot them say it would never happen here," Oisten said. "But it did. It happened."
